Books and Barefoot Biodynamics
Ready to stay indoors and do some reading as the shorter days of winter approach? Food books and cookbooks are some of our favorites for cool-weather reading. Surprised? Probably not. It’s always a great way to prompt new seasonal food ideas and inspire your table for the upcoming holidays and other warm, winter gatherings. Some of our shelves were recently filled with books that we want to share with you! Many of these books we already know and love, but some are new ones we’re excited to check out. Peruse our selection of recipe collections, homesteading instructions, personal accounts of sustainable food system pioneers, and more – before we buy them all for our personal libraries! You might find some ideas for new projects to get cooking over the winter or start planning your garden for next season.
We are especially excited to feature local author Jeff Poppen, aka the Barefoot Farmer, whose biodynamic produce is found throughout our grocery selection and our menu!
For anyone interested in learning more about biodynamic farming, Jeff Poppen is a phenomenal resource. His humus-rich Long Hungry Creek Farm is one of the oldest (30 years) and largest (300 acres) organic farms in Tennessee! They aim to grow the highest quality farm products that they can, while remaining as independent as possible regarding feed and fertilizer needs through using biodynamic methods.
